The Conversational AI Modeling and Learning (CAMEL) team is a part of the Amazon Devices organization. Our mission is to build a best-in-class Conversational AI that is intuitive, intelligent, and responsive. We develop superior Large Language Models (LLM) solutions and services that enhance model capabilities and utilize thousands of APIs and external knowledge sources to provide exceptional user experiences for millions of customers.
We are seeking a passionate and talented Applied Scientist with expertise in LLM, AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems, and Information Retrieval. The ideal candidate will have a strong machine learning background and a desire to innovate in these areas. Hands-on experience in building Generative AI solutions with LLMs is highly desirable. We are looking for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and is self-motivated to tackle challenging problems that deliver significant customer impact.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to research and develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques for natural and contextual conversations.
- Analyze and enhance user experiences using Amazon’s diverse data sources and large-scale computing resources to advance artificial intelligence.
- Work on core LLM technologies, including Prompt Engineering, Supervised Fine-Tuning, Learning from Human Feedback, and Evaluation.
**Basic Qualifications:**
- PhD or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience in building machine learning models for business applications.
- Experience in computer science, computer engineering, machine learning, or related fields.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
- 3+ years of experience with modeling languages and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, R, scikit-learn, numpy, and scipy.
- Solid background in machine learning with familiarity in standard NLU, NLG, and LLM techniques.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics, specializing in machine learning, deep learning, or NLP.
- 1+ years of experience in building conversational AI and/or NLP systems.
- Publications in peer-reviewed NLP/ML conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NAACL).
- Strong scientific thinking and a track record of contributions that have advanced the field.
- 2+ years of experience with large-scale distributed systems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
