**Role Overview:**
As the Manager of Applied Research, you will lead a team of high-performing machine learning scientists and research engineers, driving innovation through applied research. You will experiment, develop, collaborate, and deliver impactful solutions while fostering a high-performance team culture.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Experiment and Develop:** Execute the model development lifecycle from prototype to delivery using best practices for reproducible research.
- **Collaborate:** Work within a cross-functional team, fostering a collaborative environment and sharing diverse ideas.
- **Deliver:** Ensure timely and well-managed deliverables while being accountable for project outcomes.
- **Innovate:** Explore new technologies and implement innovative ideas to tackle real-world challenges.
- **Inspire:** Communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, sharing work and ideas proactively.
- **Manage:** Lead and develop a team of Applied Scientists and Research Engineers, promoting a high-performance culture through coaching and guidance.
**Qualifications:**
**Basic Qualifications:**
- PhD in a relevant discipline or Master’s degree with comparable experience.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in building information retrieval and NLP systems for commercial applications.
- Prior management experience with a focus on coaching and developing teams.
- Proficiency in writing production code and managing software delivery.
- Experience delivering minimum viable products in a large enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex problems into AI applications.
- Expertise in areas such as Python development, MLOps, containerization, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure), and ML pipelines.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience in state-of-the-art research leading to practical solutions.
- Relevant publications in esteemed conferences (ACL, EMNLP, etc.).
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
