**Job Posting: Principal Researcher - Azure Data Engineering Team**

Microsoft is seeking a Principal Researcher with expertise in dense retrieval, semantic re-ranking, GraphRAG, or related areas to join our Azure Data engineering team. This role involves developing state-of-the-art techniques, advising on the design and building of systems, and contributing to our mission of building the data platform for the age of AI.

**Responsibilities:**
- Serve as a leader and expert in research related to dense retrieval and ranking.
- Understand and identify gaps in current literature, research techniques, and business context.
- Support the development and implementation of new or modified tools and methods within research pipelines.
- Expand collaborative relationships with product and business group leaders, providing expertise.
- Create a measurable impact on business decisions at a strategic level.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and careers.
- Represent Microsoft externally to grow networks and attract talent.
- Lead collaborative research efforts to advance long-term research agendas.

**Qualifications:**
*Required/Minimum Qualifications:*
- Doctorate in relevant field AND 3+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

*Preferred/Additional Qualifications:*
- Doctorate in relevant field AND 5+ years related research experience OR equivalent experience.
- Experience publishing academic papers as lead author or essential contributor.
- Participation in top conferences in relevant research domains.

**Compensation:**
- The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $135,800 - CAD $253,000 per year.
