**Job Title: Engineering Manager, MediaWiki Interfaces Team**
**Summary:**
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an Engineering Manager to join and lead the MediaWiki Interfaces team. This role reports to the Director of MediaWiki Engineering and involves directly managing an engineering team while partnering with the Product Manager on projects that empower others to build on MediaWiki through Extensions and APIs. MediaWiki is the software that powers Wikipedia and its sister projects, serving hundreds of millions of users monthly.
**Responsibilities:**
- Coach engineers at varying levels, fostering growth and setting personal development goals, while mentoring in software engineering best practices.
- Manage resources and schedules to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Plan and execute regular deliveries while accommodating maintenance and migration work.
- Maintain clear and proactive communication within and outside the team.
- Triage incoming bugs, incidents, and requests efficiently.
- Collaborate with technical decision-makers to identify strategic investments and technology adoption areas.
- Assess task scope and difficulty, evaluate patches or alerts, and determine problem severity and solution complexity.
**Requirements:**
- Proven experience leading software engineering teams through various software development lifecycles.
- Experience managing a backend platform.
- Demonstrated success at all engineering process stages leading to measurable impact.
- Ability to travel internationally 2-3 times a year.
- Availability to work hours overlapping with UTC+2 to UTC-7 time zones.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Experience managing engagement with a community of volunteer technical contributors.
- Contributions to or management of open source projects or experience with open governance.
- Familiarity with MediaWiki.
- Experience with high-traffic systems powered by large, monolithic code bases.
- Experience working with internationally distributed teams.

**Compensation:**
The anticipated annual pay range for this position within the United States is $147,423 to $234,074, determined by factors such as skills, experience, and location. For applicants outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted accordingly.
