**Introduction:**
This international volunteer project focuses on empowering women who have migrated to Kathmandu from rural areas to work as domestic helpers. Many of these women have little to no formal education, making it challenging to navigate life in today's world. Volunteers will work as teachers, helping these women develop essential skills, build confidence, and broaden their horizons. The project takes place at Chetana Mahila Secondary School, established to provide education to women who missed out on schooling earlier in life. Volunteers and students will form meaningful connections, sharing cultures and learning from each other.
**Daily Life:**
As a volunteer, you'll teach adult women of various age groups, offering a unique and rewarding experience. You can design your lessons to best suit your students, using course books or engaging them in conversational English and real-life topics. English is crucial, as all higher education in Nepal is taught in English. Beyond English, you can also introduce subjects such as mathematics, science, geography, technology, music, personal development, environmental awareness, and health and safety. This diverse approach helps students gain practical knowledge and skills, building confidence in their everyday lives.
You'll typically teach four to five lessons each day, incorporating creative, out-of-the-box activities alongside the curriculum. These engaging lessons are highly valued by both students and staff, adding energy and variety to the learning environment. By joining this project, you're not just helping students improve academically; you're empowering them to participate fully in their families, communities, and the broader world.
